Virtual Task Force Meeting

Dear Task Force Members and Other Friends:

I hope you and your families have been well during these very difficult times. Fortunately, we were able to hold the very significant February 19th TF meeting which focused on the new Water Conservation Plan for Rockland, followed by its unanimous adoption by the Rockland County Legislature on March 3—before life changed for all of us. The work that had gone into development of the Plan took well over a year—finding the right consultant firm and the amazing volunteer efforts of the TF Water Conservation Committee, chaired by Margie Turrin. We wanted public participation and held two extremely well-attended half-day work sessions for the public, with over 100 people at the first and close to that number at the second. The deliverable is a result of the tireless efforts of the Task Force Conservation Committee, working in concert with our consultants and Patricie Drake, Task Force Coordinator.

Onset of COVID-19 demanded that many things would need to change, and we are all adapting. Patricie and I have given much thought to strengthening our committee structure and held discussions with Suzanne Barclay, Executive Director of Cornell Cooperative Extension, and others—and we will be discussing that on July 15, as well as meeting some new members of the Task Force. Hearing from each of you will be important—because those who care about the issues of water also understand how climate change impacts our lives in so many ways, not the least of which we are experiencing first-hand: deadly viruses.

To ensure that everyone can attend safely, this will be a Zoom meeting, By now, all of us know it's not the same as sitting in the same room and learning from one another—but we are all making these adjustments and are grateful for the technology that enables us to stay connected and move forward. Please register to attend here: You will then receive an email with a link to enable your access to the ZOOM meeting.

Stay Safe and Healthy!

Best regards,
