COVID-19 Prevention

Continue to follow the CDC's public health prevention measures to help slow the spread of COVID-19:

  • Get the COVID-19 vaccine and booster.
  • Wear a face mask that fully covers your nose and mouth in all indoor public spaces and gatherings.
  • When gathering with people not living in your household, wear a mask and stay 6 feet apart.
  • Avoid crowds and poorly ventilated spaces. If it is not too cold outside, open the windows and/or a door to circulate fresh air in the room.
  • Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze by using your elbow or a tissue.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Test yourself for COVID-19 before visiting vulnerable people.

COVID-19 Vaccination

COVID-19 Vaccines Authorized for Emergency Use or FDA-Approved:

  • COMIRNATY/Pfizer-BioNTech (ages 5+) is a two-dose mRNA vaccine and you will need to return 21 days/3 weeks after your first dose.
  • Moderna (ages 18+) is a two-dose mRNA vaccine and you will need to return 28 days/4 weeks after your first dose.
  • Johnson & Johnson/Janssen (ages 18+) is a single dose adenovirus vaccine.

COVID-19 Symptoms

The virus can cause either mild illness, such as a cold, or can make people sick with pneumonia. Information to date suggests that COVID-19 mostly causes mild-to-moderate illness. In more severe cases, it can cause serious and life-threatening complications. Read more about symptoms and for a tool to help you know when to seek testing and medical care.

If a person is sick with a confirmed case of COVID-19 or has symptoms, they must stay home and limit contact with others, including people in their household, as much as possible. If medical care is needed, contact your doctor or clinic before arriving. If this is an immediate medical emergency, call 911.

COVID-19 Tests

Rockland County Department of Health does not offer COVID-19 testing.
