Rockland Celebrates EMS Week with Youth Competition & Awards Ceremony![]()
New City, NY - Rockland County recognizes and celebrates our EMS providers and agencies during National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, May 21-27, 2023. Here in Rockland, the County EMS Office held their Annual Youth Squad EMS Competition followed by an Awards Ceremony where EMS providers were recognized for their outstanding contribution to their EMS agencies, their communities and the County as a whole. The following were honored in different categories: Basic Life Support Provider of the Year: Kenneth Cohen Advanced Life Support Provider of the Year: Brandon Smith Youth Member of the Year: Justin Braunfotel EMS Agency of the Year: William Paul Faist Volunteer Ambulance Corps EMS Leadership Award: Tzvi Needleman EMS Communications Specialist of the Year: Evan Humphrey Registered Professional Nurse of Excellence: Steven Schwab, RN Physician of Excellence: Jamil Rizqalla, DO EMS Educator of Excellence: Arin Shatkin In addition, County EMS Coordinator Desiree’ Leone-Stoll and Assistant EMS Coordinator Bernice Garatti presented awards to Members of the Year for EMS Agency and trophies to the winners of the Youth Competition which consisted of nine teams of youth members competing in a trauma and medical scenario. This year’s winners were as follows: 1st place trauma: Congers - Valley Cottage Ambulance, The Glucometers 2nd place trauma: Nanuet Ambulance, Trauma Troopers 3rd place trauma: Spring Hill Ambulance, SH 8th Crew 1st place medical: Haverstraw Ambulance, Trauma Hawks 2.0 2nd place medical: Spring Hill Ambulance, SH 8th Crew 3rd place medical: Congers - Valley Cottage Ambulance, The Glucometers 1st place overall: Congers - Valley Cottage Ambulance, The Glucometers 2nd place overall: Nanuet Ambulance, Trauma Troopers 3rd place overall: Spring Hill Ambulance, SH 8th Crew “The spirit, competence, and compassion illustrated by these young adults is by far the most impressive I have witnessed in my career,” said EMS Coordinator Desiree’ Leone-Stoll. “They are dedicated and committed to making a difference in our community and although only a few teams have received trophies, they have all demonstrated a winning spirit and certainly provide a bright light for our future.” Rockland County EMS providers respond to over 60,000 calls a year for service. “Every day countless lives are saved by the hundreds of Emergency Medical Service providers both volunteer and career,” said County Executive Ed Day. “This week is dedicated to the recognition of those providers who respond day and night to assist our residents in their time of need. Congratulations to all of those who were honored for exemplary service.” |
