I-87/I-287 Southbound Fully Closing in Rockland County Early Saturday, Sept. 916 Hour Closure Expected For Emergency Bridge Repairs
New City, NY – The New York State Thruway Authority announced Friday that all southbound lanes south of Exit 12 in West Nyack will be closed early Saturday to remove a badly damaged portion of the South Broadway overpass that was damaged by a tractor trailer on August 31. Southbound lanes south of exit 12 To Exit 9 will close at 12:01 AM Saturday in addition to the Tappan Zee Bridge until likely Saturday evening. All motorists should avoid the area beginning Friday evening and take alternate routes. The overpass is currently closed to vehicle traffic. Following multiple inspections this week, Thruway and consulting engineers determined that two damaged girders should be removed, and other work completed to stabilize the overpass. All southbound lanes south of exit 12 (West Nyack - NY Route 303 - Palisades Center Drive) and over the Tappan Zee Bridge will be closed after 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, and are not expected to fully reopen until later that afternoon or early evening depending on the operation. Motorists are strongly advised to avoid the area beginning Friday night and take alternate routes on Saturday. Here’s what the New York State Thruway Authority reports motorists and residents should expect starting Friday night:
