Hurricane Season is Here – Are You and Your Family Prepared?Put together an emergency supply kit and sign up for local weather and emergency alertsNEW CITY, NY, - The Rockland County Department of Health reminds residents that hurricane season is from June 1 to November 30, with most activity occurring between mid-August and mid-October. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts a near-normal or average Atlantic hurricane season; the forecast is for a range of 12 to 17 total named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher). Of those, 5 to 9 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 1 to 4 major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5; with winds of 111 mph or higher). "We encourage everyone to take these important steps to be prepared for a storm, especially if you lose power or are told to evacuate," said Eric Medina, Director of Emergency Preparedness/Public Health:
