County Mourns Death of Army SPC Zachary Zamot

New City, NY - The County of Rockland and County Executive Ed Day send prayers and condolences to family, friends, and service members for the passing of a local brother-in-arms.

Specialist (SPC) Zachary Zamot, an active-duty Army soldier from Rockland County stationed with the 160th Aviation Special Forces Group in Fort Campbell, KY, passed on Friday May 19, 2023. The Ramapo High School graduate was a "Night Stalker," meaning that he served with the 160th Aviation Special Forces Group as a 15 P (Flight operations specialist). This is a group of highly trained and specialized soldiers that do incredibly dangerous missions.

SPC Zamot’s remains will arrive in Newark on Thursday and then escorted, along with his family, by the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office and Clarkstown Police Department from the airport to Vanderplatt Funeral Home in Wykoff, NJ where funeral services will be held Friday. Visitation and service will be open to the public with details available here.

“I was incredibly heartbroken to learn of the passing of Rockland native hero Army Specialist (SPC) Zachary Zamot,” said County Executive Day. “As a military dad with a son in active duty, I can attest that there is no greater tragedy then seeing a young and promising life taken from us so abruptly. This death is a loss to our entire community, and I ask that we all keep him and his family in our thoughts and prayers.”

In observance of this heroes passing, flags at the County of Rockland will be at half-staff Friday.
