County Lights Up Red For JaredCounty Buildings Illuminated Red March 19-26th For Jared Lloyd![]() New City, NY – In tribute of fallen volunteer firefighter Jared Lloyd, the County of Rockland’s Allison Paris Building on New Hempstead Rd. in New City and Building A in the Pomona Health Complex off Route 45 will be lit red for the “Light Rockland Red for Jared” event next week in Rockland County. March 23, 2023 marks two years since Rockland hero Firefighter Jared Lloyd and resident Oliver Hueston died in a fire at the Evergreen Court Home for Adults in Spring Valley. Jared was one of the first to arrive at the scene to rescue residents trapped inside as the fire intensified. He along with firefighters, police officers, and others helped save 112 senior citizens away from a raging inferno. For the anniversary of his passing, the County of Rockland is participating in the Spring Valley Fire Department’s "Light Rockland Red For Jared" initiative, which requests fellow fire departments, EMS agencies, police departments, business owners, homeowners, and school administrators to install red lights outside of their buildings from March 19th to March 26th in honor of Jared's memory. “By shining a red light, my administration is showing residents Lloyds’ service is not forgotten,” said County Executive Ed Day. “For all who choose to voluntarily serve in emergency services and protect our communities, we hope our participation in “Light Rockland Red For Jared” serves as a reminder that we do not take that sacrifice lightly and thank you for all you do.” “I think that anytime our first responders can feel like they are not alone is a powerful and worthwhile message,” said Chris Kear, Director of the Rockland County Office of Fire and Emergency Services. “My hope is that the County lit up with red lights sounds the alarm that this county supports our heroes.” The Tappan Zee Bridge will also be lit up red on March 23rd, the anniversary of Jared’s passing, which the County confirmed with help from Senator Bill Weber. Residents are encouraged to participate by simply changing one light bulb in their house to a red bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see, or an interior light that sparks a conversation with friends. By shining a red light, we are letting our community know Jared is not forgotten and all our emergency responders are appreciated and supported. ![]()
