Our court records are online, you can search and view records of many types, including court records, land records, maps, naturalization, notary public, tax warrant, and many more. Some of our records date back to 1798.

The Rockland County Clerk files and records court-related documents for the New York State Supreme and County Courts. We accept filings to initiate supreme and county court actions and subsequent documents in existing actions. What legal/court documents can I view at the County Clerk's Office?
The public can view any legal/court documents other than mental hygiene, matrimonial and youthful offender. Only the parties to the action and/or attorneys of record can view matrimonial files.
How do I locate a document/file which was filed as a hard copy?

Court files which were commenced in the last six years (approximately) are located at the Office of the Rockland County Clerk, Rockland County Courthouse, 1 South Main Street, Suite 100, New City. Files commenced over six years ago (approximately) are located at the Rockland County Archives Building, Sanatorium Road, Building S, Pomona, New York. Questions about file location can be directed to (845)638-5094.

To obtain a file, fill out a "File Request Card" at one of the above noted locations. Files can be viewed in those locations only and cannot be removed from the premises.

Documents can be copied at .50 per copy and certified copies are available for a fee of $1.25 per per page, $5 minimum.

How do I initiate a lawsuit?
To initiate a lawsuit in Supreme Court, you must submit a summons with notice or summons and complaint, complete an index number application and purchase an index number at a cost of $210. Obtain further information at the Court Records Counter at the County Clerk’s Office in New City.
How do I file a small claims action?
Small claims actions (under $3000 and all landlord-tenant disputes) are handled by towns and villages only. See "Towns, Villages and Hamlets" section of the Our Community page located in the top menu bar.
How do I file a judgment and/or obtain an execution?
  1. A judgment must first be obtained in a Village or Town Justice Court. Once a judgment is obtained, a transcript will be issued by the Justice Court.
  2. Take this transcript to the County Clerk’s Office. The fee for filing the judgment is $10. To proceed with the execution (either income or property), there is an additional $5 fee.
  3. The County Clerk’s Office will prepare an execution, which you will deliver to the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department, Civil Division, 55 New Hempstead Road.
How do I register a Domestic Partnership?

Complete an Affidavit of Domestic Partnership Registration Form (see link below). This form must be notarized and filed in our office for a fee of $35.00, payable by money order. The parties will receive two certified copies of the affidavit.
