Register to Vote
In order to register to vote, you must:
- Be a U.S. Citizen
- Be 18 years of age or older on or before the date of the general, primary or other election in which you want to vote. Beginning January 1, 2020: If you are at least 16 years of age and understand that you must be 18 years of age on or before election day to vote, and that until you turn 18 years of age your registration will be marked "pending" and you will be unable to cast a ballot in any election, you may fill out the registration form and submit. You will be pre-registered as an inactive voter. On your 18th birthday, your registration will be activated.
You must be 18 years of age on or before the day of the election in order to vote. - Live at your present address at least 30 days before an election.
- Not be in prison for a felony conviction.
- Not claim the right to vote elsewhere.
- Register as a new voter prior to the election cut-off. New York State Law establishes a cut-off date ten days prior to each election 5-210(3).
In order to vote in a primary election, you must:
- Meet the eligibility requirements outlined above.
- Be an enrolled member of the party. New York State Law outlines the requirements to change enrollment. If you change from one party to another or from No Party to a party, you must do so on or before February 14, 2023. For example, to vote in the 2023 Primary Election, you must have changed your enrollment on or before February 14, 2023. See 5-304(3). A change of enrollment submitted between February 15, 2023 and seven days after the June 2023 Primary, will not be processed until July 4, 2023 (Seven days after the June Primary).

Helpful Hint: Voter Registration Forms have 16 boxes, including a party choice and a signature and date line. Check to make sure you have completed 16 boxes! This form is legal sized. You may need to change your print settings to "fit to print".

Remember: If you are a new registrant, you must register at least 10 days prior to an election to be eligible to vote in that election.
These are the deadlines for the 2023 Elections:
- Primary Election - June 17, 2023
- General Election - October 28, 2023
Remember: If you ARE NOT a new registrant, all changes to party enrollment are processed immediately, except between February 14th and the June Primary Election. Those changes will be processed seven days after the June Primary.
