NEW CITY, NY - - Rockland County Executive Ed Day and County Health Commissioner Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert today announced that it's National Nutrition Month, a nutrition education and information campaign created annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. The theme for 2016 is "Savor the Flavor of Eating Right," which encourages everyone to take time to enjoy their food traditions and appreciate the pleasures, great flavors and social experiences food can add to our lives.

Did you know that how, when, why and where you eat are just as important as what you eat? Take time to enjoy the taste and flavor of your food as well as the sight, sounds, memories and interactions associated with eating. Develop a mindful eating pattern that includes foods that are nutritious and full of flavor. This means taking the time to enjoy everything that a healthful and tasty meal brings with it - the best way to savor the flavor of eating right!

Wondering what to eat when dining out? All those restaurants, all those choices, all those calories ... what should you eat? Michelle Kleinman, Public Health Nutritionist for the Rockland County Department of Health, will highlight delicious and nutritious food choices from deli choices, kosher options and favorite Italian dishes, at the Haverstraw King's Daughters Public Library, 10 West Ramapo Road in Garnerville, on March 28 at 7 PM. For more information or to sign-up call the library at (845) 786-3800.
