Spring Valley Woman Arraigned on Attempted Murder and Arson
Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced today that Safarah B. De Silva, 71, of Spring Valley was charged with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Arson in the Second Degree and Attempted Arson in the Second Degree. At this point in the investigation, there does not appear to be any connection to the fatal fire that occurred at the Evergreen Home on March 23, 2021.

West Haverstraw Man Arraigned on Murder Charges
Darin Peterson, 27, of West Haverstraw was arraigned today in Rockland County Grand Court before the Honorable Judge Larry Schwartz. Peterson was charged with Murder 2nd, Assault 1st, and Possession of a Weapon 3rd. He was remanded to the Rockland County jail and will return to court on April 21, 2021. The case is being prosecuted by Executive Assistant District Attorney Stephen Moore.

Two Men Indicted on Charges Related to the Sexual Abuse of Children
Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh announced the indictments of two men on two separate charges relating to the sexual abuse of young children that occurred in Rockland County over the past few weeks. Both victims were 11 year old females.

New City Man Sentenced in Haverstraw Murder Case
Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh announced that Gerard O'Sullivan, 61, of New City, NY, was sentenced today to 18 years to life in prison for the murder of Noe Hamer. Hamer was shot and killed by O'Sullivan, on February 6, 2020 at the McGowan's Funeral Home in Haverstraw, NY. Noe Hamer was 42 years old at the time of his death.

Walsh II announced a Rockland County Grand Jury has handed up an indictment of Sloatsburg Volunteer Ambulance Corps President Matthew Gannon, age 53, of Sloatsburg, New York on Grand Larceny in the Second Degree. He was charged with stealing funds from the ambulance corps while serving as president of the organization after a multi-agency investigation.
