Volunteers Needed for Point in Time Count
New City, NY, - The Rockland County Continuum of Care is looking for volunteers to assist with the upcoming Point in Time Count and for volunteer service providers such as barbers, hairdressers, nail technicians, physicians or any provider which is willing to provide a service to homeless individuals that come in for the count. Volunteers are needed both to assist with the Count itself and to provide services.
The annual Point in Time Count will be conducted on January 28, 2020, snow date of January 30, 2020. The Count is a requirement of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). For a twenty-four-hour period, communities that receive federal funds are required to conduct a count of all sheltered and unsheltered individuals during the last week of January each year. Unsheltered counts are done annually and are very important because they establish the level of homelessness in our Community. This data is vital for organizations to utilize for service delivery, outreach and determines funding for the next year.
All volunteers for the Count will work in teams and will be trained on the process. As the Count goes on for 24 hours, assistance would be helpful at any time of day on January 28. The Continuum of Care is holding a mandatory informational and training session at 6:30 pm on January 22, 2020, at the Haverstraw Center, 50 West Broad Street, Haverstraw, New York.
Volunteers must RSVP as dinner will be served during the session. To RSVP, please email organizers Marion Breland Marion.E.Breland@gmail.com or Deena Roedema Deena.Roedema@dfa.state.ny.us.
