Statement from Rockland County Executive Ed Day Regarding Hoarding Prevention Order
Rockland County is committed to ensuring that all of our residents have the chance to purchase the medicine, soap, cleaning products, food, baby formula, toilet paper and other items that they need. We greatly appreciate our local stores who have followed the lead of our Hoarding Prevention Order, which was announced Monday, March 16, in limiting the number of items any single household can purchase. This has allowed our neighbors the chance to buy the things we all need to go about our daily lives.
The latest Executive Order received from the Governor's Office seeks to limit local Executive Orders that apply to COVID-19 across all of New York State, our Consumer Protection Office will continue to do their utmost to protect our consumers whether it be in a grocery store or elsewhere. Any reported instances will be judged on a case by case basis.
Despite this local interference from the Governor's Office, we have every faith that our residents will continue to look out for their neighbors and that our local stores will ensure people do the right thing. Our Office of Consumer Protection will continue to visit local stores, and we ask our residents to report any instances of price gouging to their office at 845-364-3901. There will be no tolerance for anyone trying to take advantage of the people of this County.
