Mask Distribution in Village of Haverstraw on 8-5
New City, NY, - The Rockland County Executive’s Office, Department of Health, Human Rights Commission, Youth Bureau, Fire and Emergency Services and the Haverstraw African American Connection (HAAC) have partnered to distribute washable, reusable cloth face masks from 11 am – 2 pm, Wednesday, August 5th at the Haverstraw African American Memorial Park, located at 41 Clinton Street, Haverstraw, NY.
“Through the efforts of multiple County Departments, we are making sure our residents have what they need to protect themselves from COVID-19,” said County Executive Day. “We have been able to track the areas still most affected by this disease and target our efforts in these communities and from there we have expanded these efforts and taken a county-wide approach. Thank you to all the organizations and individuals which have helped us on this initiative.”
This is the latest public distribution and comes on the heels of masks being provided to dozens of food pantries, community organizations, non-profits, houses of worship, barbers, hair salons and other businesses throughout Rockland over the last 4 weeks.
“The Rockland County Department of Health has conducted dozens of outreach and education events throughout Rockland during the month of July. We began by working with community organizations and have expanded these efforts to the public in order to share the latest health and safety best practices with residents. It is incumbent on all of us to continue to do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” said Commissioner of Health Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert.
The Haverstraw African American Connection, a local non-profit organization, had previously purchased supplies to assist individuals and families that could not afford to comply with the state mandated requirement to wear masks.
Haverstraw African American Connection Chair and Founder Virginia Norfleet said, “Once the County Executive’s Office and the other County Departments became aware of the dire need they secured thousands of face masks and hand sanitizers which are being distributed throughout the county by way of local churches, community centers, organizations and individuals. Thank you to Rockland County and everyone who has helped with distribution.”
