Construction to Begin on County EMS Memorial
New City, NY, - County Executive Ed Day, Director of Fire and Emergency Services Chris Kear and County Health Commissioner Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert announced that work is beginning on the Rockland County EMS Memorial. Kyle Eng, a Clarkstown High School South Senior and Life Scout with Troop 2097 in New City will construct the Memorial as his Boy Scout Eagle Project.
The Memorial will be constructed at the Rockland County Fire Training Center in Pomona and will include a granite column with Star of Life symbols and the names of all the EMS agencies which serve Rockland.
“There has long been discussion of a Memorial to recognize the dedicated members of the EMS community without any significant progress,” said County Executive Ed Day. “After renewed discussion this Fall, New York State Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue Association (NYSVARA) members suggested contacting an Eagle Scout to spearhead the project and Kyle jumped at the opportunity. Given the challenges that 2020 has brought, particularly to the EMS community, I am proud to see this project take shape and look forward to its completion in honor of the many volunteers that make up the EMS ranks.”
Construction of the Memorial is expected to begin before the end of November. Kyle Eng is still seeking donations to fund the completion of the project. For more information visit the project’s gofundme page here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/kyle-eng-eagle-scout-project-rockland-county-ems
