Public Health Order Issued to Enable Enforcement of Nys Order Prohibiting Gatherings

To curtail the rapid spreading of COVID-19 in Rockland County, County Executive Ed Day has announced that Rockland County Health Commissioner Dr. Patricia Ruppert has issued a new Public Health Order. The Order specifies criminal penalties associated with the violation of the common-sense social distancing and gathering prohibitions set forth by New York State Executive Order 202.10. This additional route of enforcement enhances the ability of law enforcement where groups or gatherings of more than 10 people are not complying with social distancing. [Read More]

Disappointed to say the least at the Governor’s briefing today. I spent a good part of the day yesterday, in addition to this morning, having what I thought were productive conversations with his senior staff. To blame the county for, “not understanding the law” on enforcement of large gatherings pursuant to the Governor’s emergency orders when our District Attorney and Sheriff cite the New York District Attorney’s Association written opinion that there is no enforceability, who likened the language in the orders as only “helpful hints” is completely inaccurate and disingenuous as we have raised this concern before.
