Valentines for Vets Success
New City, NY – County Executive Ed Day and Veterans Service Agency (VSA) Director Susan Branam thanked all the community groups and citizens who took part in the Valentines for Vets program and were so generous with their kind words, well wishes, and donated cards and items this year.
"It is always so heartening to see how Rockland comes together to support our veterans," said County Executive Day. "As a military father, I specially thank the schools, organizations and residents who took part in this program. It truly goes a long way towards reminding our veterans how important they are to our community."
ARC of Rockland Senior Program, Blauvelt Library, Nyack Ridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Elmwood Elementary School and Prime Time for Kids and others donated items and handmade cards to be given to Rockland veterans.
"The Veterans Service Agency was completely filled with thousands of cards this year," said VSA Director Susan Branam. "We've been able to give cards to local veterans' groups and nursing homes, the New City VA Clinic, the NYS Veterans' Home at Montrose, vets who have stopped into our office and sent many to units serving abroad. We've done our best to see that as many local veterans as possible get these cards."
Special thanks to Carolynne Bayer from Elmwood Elementary and MariEllyn Dykstra Donnellan for their assistance in collecting the Valentines.
