Rockland County Executive Ed Day Names New Director of Consumer Protection
New City, NY - Rockland County Executive Ed Day named James Elcik as his choice for Director of Consumer Protection.
"Jim Elcik is an experienced manager with extensive law enforcement experience, from his time in the United States Marshals Service, who will bring a renewed focus of enforcement to the Office of Consumer Protection," said County Executive Ed Day. "I have full confidence in his impressive skill set and look forward to the improvements he will bring to Consumer Protection."
Mr. Elcik was one of thirty candidates for the position who went through an extensive interview process before being selected. He rose through the ranks of the US Marshals Service beginning as a Deputy US Marshal in January of 1991 before retiring in May of 2018 as Assistant Chief Deputy US Marshal for the Eastern District of New York.
In June of 2018 he took a job as a Consumer Liaison Assistant with the Rockland County Office of Consumer Protection where he was responsible for the enforcement of the local law protecting homeowners and consumers against abuses on the part of itinerant home improvement contractors.
Areas of focus for Director Elcik include:
Increasing public awareness of Consumer Protection through better utilization of social media and outreach to residents and businesses.
Continued enforcement of existing laws to protect consumers and homeowners.
Enhancing the use of technology through the creation of an online complaint form and revamped website.
Mr. Elcik is a resident of New City and has lived in Rockland County for 20 years with his wife Nancy and their two children Samantha and James.
"Jim understands enforcement, and he knows the Rockland community. I look forward to working with him to spread the word about our Office of Consumer Protection and the resources and programs available to help and protect our residents," concluded Day.
James Elcik replaces former Director Judi Hunderfund who retired in September, 2018. The job pays $111,745 annually.
