Labor Day Success
New City, NY – County Executive Ed Day praised the efforts of the Rockland County Office of Fire and Emergency Services, State and Local law enforcement, the staff at Rockland Lake State Park and the other first responders and local officials involved in coordinating the preparation for Labor Day weekend.
"I am extremely pleased with the communication and coordination displayed by our first responders and local municipalities," said County Executive Day. "It is clear that the pre-planning meetings we held in July and August have paid dividends for visitors to the park and residents of Clarkstown."
County Executive Ed Day hosted an executive level meeting in July with the Executive Director of the Palisades Interstate Park Commission, members of law enforcement, emergency responders, state representatives and representatives from town governments to find solutions to recent issues that occurred in and surrounding NY State Parks within Rockland County. A meeting involving all of these stakeholders had never before occurred and was held in response to the events of the July 4th holiday.
A follow up meeting was held in early August to discuss the specific duties and responsibilities of both State and Local agencies. The key takeaways from those discussions were the creation of a clear chain of communications, preparing surrounding roads with "No Parking" signs, stationing variable message board signs to inform park visitors of parking, having additional law enforcement ready to respond and tow trucks at the ready.
"Thankfully we did not see a repeat of the mayhem that occurred on July 4th, the strategies tested this Labor Day weekend will be used to ensure a situation like that does not happen again. Thank you to the State and Local officials, law enforcement and first responders who took the necessary steps to prepare for the Labor Day weekend," concluded County Executive Day.
