Day: Health Insurance Project to be Removed from 2018 Shared Services Draft Plan
New City, NY – County Executive Ed Day announced on behalf of the Rockland County Shared Services Panel that the proposed Health Insurance Project will be removed from the 2018 Draft Shared Services Plan. Shared Services Panel members include every Town and Village in Rockland along with several School Districts and Fire Districts.
"We learned a great deal from the comments of those who attended the public hearings and thank those who came to speak. This is exactly how the process is designed to work," said County Executive Day. "Given the concerns raised during the first two public hearings it is the intention of the Shared Services Panel members, myself included, to vote to remove the Health Insurance project from the plan. As a part of good governance and prudent financial policy, we investigate every possible savings to be proper stewards of taxpayer money. We govern by exploration and study, not ignorance nor the status quo. It is that type of strategy that is responsible for the near miraculous turn around we have seen here in Rockland County over the past four years."
The goal of the Shared Services Initiative, which is mandated by State Law, is to bring together Towns, Villages, School Districts, Fire Districts and the County to improve services to their residents while saving money. The concerns of taxpayers have been heard loud and clear. As governments, schools and fire districts, efficiencies and cost savings must be found whenever possible.
One last public hearing will be held on the draft 2018 Rockland County Shared Services Initiative Plan at 7:00 PM, Wednesday, September 5, Suffern Village Hall, 61 Washington Avenue, Suffern, NY.
The Shared Services Panel Members will vote to remove the Health Insurance Project from the 2018 Shared Services Draft Plan at 5:00 PM, Wednesday, September 12 at the Fire Training Center, 35 Firemens Memorial Drive, Pomona, NY.
