County Executive Ed Day Statement on Anniversary of Pearl Harbor
"Seventy-seven years ago, in the space of two hellish hours, the world changed for an entire generation of Americans. The Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor killed more than 2,400 and left the U.S. Pacific Fleet wounded, but not destroyed. Rockland is truly grateful to those members of the "Greatest Generation" who saved the world from fascism; many of whom shipped out through Camp Shanks in Orangeburg before fighting in World War II. We will always remember you and give thanks to those who have served since and continue to serve in our armed forces today; keeping the liberties we hold dear in place."
