Prestigious Bicycle Race Spends Weekend in Rockland
NEW CITY, NY – Hundreds of people spent the weekend in Rockland County at a bicycle race that brought tourism and prestige to the area, Rockland County Executive Ed Day said.
There were nearly 900 racers registered to take part in the Supercross Cup weekend. The event was held at Rockland Community College in Suffern.
Bike riders from all over the Northeast attended along with their families. There were numerous free activities for children.
"We were happy to welcome the racers and their families who stayed in local hotels and ate at Rockland restaurants while they were here," Day said. "We hope they come back."
Numerous organizations sponsored the event, including the Rockland County Department of Economic Growth and Tourism, which provided some funding for promotional activities.
"This is a good investment as we work to encourage tourism in Rockland County," Day said.
The race course was a closed loop of about 1.5 miles contested on a mixture of grass, dirt, and gravel road surfaces entirely on the RCC campus.
