Rockland County Executive Ed Day Signs Legislation to Extend Job Program for Youth

NEW CITY, NY – Rockland County Executive Ed Day signed legislation Monday to provide continued employment for 46 young people placed in jobs throughout the county.

The legislation provides $45,996 to extend a very successful program run by the Rockland County Youth Bureau that matches teens and young adults with jobs.

"This is a worthy program that helps our young people acquire the skills they will use to become successful in the workplace," County Executive Ed Day said.

The program, TEEN Works, teaches young people how to seek and retain employment. There were 120 participants between the ages of 14-21 over the summer.

So many people wanted to participate that they agency had to allocate more of its budget to meet the need.

As a result, there was not enough funding to continue a subsidized employment segment of the program.

Forty-six young people who successfully completed the summer program have been placed in jobs at offices and non-profit agencies throughout Rockland. Their salary is subsidized by the Youth Bureau.

They would have lost those jobs without additional funding from the county.

"We are very pleased that the youngsters will be able to continue helping their community, gaining skills, and earning a salary" said Marianne McCarney-Haesche, acting director of the Youth Bureau. "They will be very grateful that County Executive Day signed this legislation."
