ROCKLAND COUNTY TO HONOR AND REMEMBER FALLEN LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS
NEW CITY, NY -- Rockland County will join communities across the United States during National Police Week to honor and remember law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as the family members, friends and fellow officers left behind.
County Executive Ed Day and Sheriff Louis Falco III invite all residents to attend the 2014 Memorial Service to be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 18th at the Rockland County Police Memorial outside the Rockland County Courthouse on Main Street in New City.
"As a former member of our law enforcement community, I urge our residents to honor those who protect and serve us every day, " said Day. "Additionally, we must never forget those courageous officers who paid with their lives so that others might live in safe and secure communities."
In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, as National Police Week.
Flags outside County-owned buildings in New City and Pomona will be lowered and flown at half-mast Sunday to honor those who lost their lives.
Rockland County's Annual Memorial Service is a collaborative effort of many organizations dedicated to honoring America's law enforcement community.
