COUNTY EXECUTIVE DAY ANNOUNCES THE ESTABLISHMENT OF ONLINE CIVIL SERVICE EXAM APPLICATION PROGRAM
Applicants May Now Apply For Over 100 Civil Service Exams From Anywhere With Internet Access
NEW CITY, NY -- County Executive Day and Commissioner of Personnel Joan Silvestri today officially launched a new web-based service that allows residents to apply for civil service exams through the Internet. Applications are now accessible online at rocklandgov.com.
"The move to paperless civil service exam applications is aligned with the County's larger efforts to increase efficiencies and cut costs," said County Executive Day. "In addition to saving County dollars, this new online program will reduce the costs to applicants in time, travel and mailing expenses."
The benefits to Personnel Department employees include increased accuracy of information by removing the necessity of entering handwritten forms into a database, instant access to applicant data, the ability to make instant corrections and the reduction of paper.
"It's now possible for applicants sign up for exams anytime, from the privacy of their homes," said Commissioner Silvestri. "This new program simplifies the process by allowing individuals to pay all exam fees online by credit card or PayPal. We believe this will help in our outreach to a diverse population as we seek to enlarge the pool of qualified applicants."
Although some individuals may not have Internet access, computers are increasingly available for public use at libraries, community organizations, nonprofit employment services, as well as through friends and family. It is important to note that the Department of Personnel will continue to accept paper applications for now.
Said Silvestri, "By bringing together our skilled Management Information Systems team with our knowledgeable Personnel staff, Rockland County government will continue to meet the needs of our community by delivering an improved experience for applicants."
Rockland County encourages facilities that traditionally post paper exam announcements, such as schools and community centers, to continue to do so.
