DR. KATHERINE A. WARD WITH ANNUAL FREEDOM AWARD
Award Presented In Honor Of Women's History Month
NEW CITY, NY ‐‐ Rockland County Executive Ed Day today presented Blauvelt resident Dr. Katherine A. Ward with the second annual Rockland County Freedom Award for her service to our country as a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps.
"It is my privilege to present Dr. Katherine A. Ward with the Rockland County Freedom Award for her valiant service in the U.S. Army caring for our soldiers," said County Executive Day. "We thank her for her commitment to improving the health and nutrition of our children through her involvement in many community organizations."
The award is given in honor of Women's History Month in March.
A graduate of Nyack High School and the State University of New York at Albany, with a podiatry degree from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, Dr. Ward went on to complete her surgical residency at Catholic Medical Center in Queens. She later received training at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps during the Gulf War, Somalia and Bosnian campaigns. Dr. Ward has served as Chief of Podiatry at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well as at Fort Hood, Texas. In 1995, she was honorably discharged and began teaching at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine.
Today, Dr. Ward operates her own clinical podiatric practice in Rockland County and serves on the South Orangetown School District PTA and Wellness Committee as well as the Rockland County School Health and Wellness Coalition. She is also President of the Board of Visitors at the New York State Veterans Nursing Home at Montrose and is the Rockland County PBA surgeon.
Dr. Ward resides in Blauvelt with her husband and two children.
