Passport Information!

The Rockland County Clerk acts as Acceptance Facility for the Passport Services Division of the U.S. Department of State. Once residents submit their applications, our staff reviews them for completeness and forwards them to the U.S. Passport Agency for processing. The information contained below has been obtained from the US Department of State website.

General Passport Information

Get a Passport in a Hurry

If you need your passport quickly, you can expedite your application. Please see our most up-to-date processing times. Expedited service is an additional $60.

Expedite at a Passport Agency or Center

  • Fill out your application and collect your documents. See How to Apply.
  • You must make an appointment and show proof of international travel to apply at a passport agency or center.
  • Call 1-877-487-2778  or‌· 1-888-874-7793 (TDD/TTY) to schedule an appointment.

 

Expedite by Mail

  • Fill out your application and collect your documents. For eligibility requirements, see Renew a Passport.
  • Be sure to include the $60 expedite fee in addition to the normal application fee. See Passport Fees for more information. Clearly mark "EXPEDITE" on the outside of the envelope.
  • Paying for Priority Express return delivery can help you get your passport more quickly. See Passport Fees for more information.
  • You may also choose to use Priority Express Mail to mail your application to us. Doing this may get your passport back to you a day or two faster. The fee for this service is payable to the acceptance facility.


Expedited Service at an Acceptance Facility

  • Fill out your application and collect your documents. Only Form DS-11 is eligible for expediting at an acceptance facility. See How to Apply.
  • Be sure to include the $60 expedite fee in addition to the normal application fee. See Passport Fees for more information.
  • Find the acceptance facility nearest you. Contact the facility before arriving to determine if an appointment is required.
  • Paying for Priority Express return delivery can help you get your passport more quickly. See Passport Fees for more information.
  • At an acceptance facility, you may also choose to use Priority Express Mail to mail your application to us. Doing this may get your passport back to you a day or two faster. The fee for this service is payable to the acceptance facility.


Passport Expeditor/Courier Companies

Passport expeditor/courier companies are private entities, some of which are registered at our passport agencies, and are allowed to submit expedited passport applications on behalf of customers. How can I check my application status?

The status of your application should be available online 7-10 business days after applying.

By Phone

Call the National Passport Information Center to check your application status at 1-877-487-2778 or 1-888-874-7793 (TDD/TTY) between the following hours:

Monday- Friday 8:00 am to 10:00 pm Eastern Time
Saturday 10:00 am to 3:00 pm Eastern Time
*Excluding Federal Holidays

For your convenience, you can sign up to receive automatic updates by email on the status of your application. To register for this service, select the “Check Application Status” below and enter your email address after locating your pending application.

TO CHECK THE STATUS OF YOUR APPLICATION, YOU WILL NEED YOUR:


  • Last Name
    • Include suffixes (Jones III, Patton Jr, etc.)
    • Include hyphens as appropriate (Jackson-Smith)
  • Date of Birth (MM/DD/YYYY)
  • Last Four Digits of Social Security Number

Haven't Received Your Passport?

If the Online Passport Status System or the National Passport Information Center has indicated that your newly-issued passport has been mailed out, but you have not received it after ten business days, please contact the National Passport Information Center to notify them of non-receipt of your passport. They will guide you through completion of the DS-86 form.

If you do not report the non-receipt of your passport within 90 days from the date the passport was issued, you will be required to reapply and pay all applicable fees.

How long does it take to receive my passport?

The processing times below apply to all passport services.

ROUTINE SERVICE Approximately 4-6 weeks from the time of application, including mailing time.
EXPEDITED SERVICE Approximately 2-3 weeks from the time of application, including mailing time.

Need it faster?

If you are traveling within 2 weeks or need a foreign visa within 4 weeks, you should make an appointment at a passport agency or center. The passport agency or center will specify when you will get your new passport. See Get a Passport in a Hurry.

 All fees must be paid by check or money order, made payable to "US DEPARTMENT OF STATE".
